No one here gets out alive

People are afraid of themselves, of their own reality; their feelings most of all. People talk about how great love is, but that's bullshit. Love hurts. Feelings are disturbing. People are taught that pain is evil and dangerous. How can they deal with love if they're afraid to feel? Pain is meant to wake us up. People try to hide their pain. But they're wrong. Pain is something to carry, like a radio. You feel your strength in the experience of pain. It's all in how you carry it. That's what matters. Pain is a feeling. Your feelings are a part of you. Your own reality. If you feel ashamed of them, and hide them, you're letting society destroy your reality.

A friend is someone who gives you total freedom to be yourself - and especially to feel, or not feel. Whatever you happen to be feeling at any moment is fine with them.
That's what real love amounts to - letting a person be what he really is. Most people love you for who you pretend to be. To keep their love, you keep pretending - performing. You get to love your pretence. It's true, we're locked in an image, an act - and the sad thing is, people get so used to their image, they grow attached to their masks. They love their chains. They forget all about who they really are. And if you try to remind them, they hate you for it, they feel like you're trying to steal their most precious possession.

Expose yourself to your deepest fear; after that, fear has no power, and the fear of freedom shrinks and vanishes. You are free.

Get real, Jennifer Aniston!

After reading an analytical article of why J-Ans is still single, I personally (as in, MY OPINION) have to disagree. The article (which you can read HERE), gives her all sorts of complimentary reasons why no man wants to commit to her.

I'm sure there are still those guys who pine over 90's-fabulous stars, but let's get real...after reading the "reasons" she is still single after 40, I came to the conclusion that none of them are really valid. The reason she's single is internal, not external.

I bring to your attention Jessica Simpson who is hardly ever single. We all know Jess is always in a relationship and she is LOADED, has HOT ex's, is WAY famous, isn't really who she played on TV, and she caught the "John Mayer"...the only difference is, she isn't insecure.

Jennifer Aniston is insecure. And I think everyone knows it...countless nose jobs, so much botox her face looks like it would melt under high temperatures, constantly talking about "hotness"? I used to admire her and think she was cute and funny...but not really anymore. I don't really know many guys who want to marry someone who will be more concerned about how her nose looks in pictures than living life. Or maybe Jenn doesn't want to be in a relationship (although I doubt that since she is always ranting about how she can't find real love despite her best efforts bla bla bla). It's sad people don't help her love herself instead of trying to suck up with all these bogus reasons about the world not being to handle her...please.

Instead of re-affirming the whole "guys can't handle your fame and fortune" BS, how about a reality-check for once?

Oh hi Leafs Nation...

Dear Leafs fans,

I do not appreciate some of your snobby attitudes regarding who gets to cheer for "your" team. First of all, they are not yours. Second of all, they need all the support they can get! If you haven't noticed they are kind of the object of derision in...every city but El Toro (had to throw that in; it's a joke, relax).

I have supported the Leafs through thick and thin (as have many of you) and I chose to take a break from their stressful antics - it was hard watching them consistently getting their arses handed to them by...everyone. I'm entitled to do so while still loving them.

That is not bandwagon jumping, friends. Band wagon jumping is when a person prior to the playoffs, did not support nor cheer for a team until that team showed promise to win the championship.

I cheered for the Leafs from beginning of season until Jan 1, 2011. That's way prior to the play-offs. Further, who are we kidding? Even IF the Leafs make it to the play-offs there is zero promise of them winning the championship. I am all about optimism and positive thought, but I doubt any of you would put money on a bet they'll win the Stanley Cup.

In conclusion, your snobbery is as unwarranted as The Maroon 5 Fan Club rejecting/kicking out members. Makes no sense. Think about it.

Regards,
Aunt Jemima

Gossip: more than a FINE dining experience.

Gossip restaurant is undoubtedly what one would call a hidden gem!
Found on the CNE grounds, across from Muzik, this restaurant boasts a mouth-watering array of options from their delicious signature Gossip Salad, to Tempura Shrimp (which comes with two very tasty dipping sauces) and Sirloin that is to die for.
Other items of note are the White Fish which melts in your mouth and the Carrot Soup.
I was very impressed with the courteous, friendly, and professional service at Gossip and this certainly swayed me to return multiple times.
The interior of the restaurant, the quality of the food, and the outstanding service may fool you into thinking you are a celebrity, and you might fear the pricing but surprisingly, the prices are quite reasonable!

I think I have definitely found a new go-to!
You can check out their website HERE...TRY not to drool too much!

Vox

A singer's voice is like his/her trademark. I have a dozen favourite singers but only a few have voices that send chills down my spine. Corey Taylor is one of them.
The range in his voice is simply amazing - it can be grainy and angry or smooth and totally on key all the while conveying so many emotions I feel just by listening.
Through the Glass by Stone Sour is one track that showcases his voice beautifully.
As does this...if I ever get vocal training, I want it from him!

Father Time

Make time work for you...it's the one thing in life you will never get back.

"I'm too busy for that" or the more passive-aggressive "I don't have time to ..." are probably two of the least credible, and illegitimate phrases you hear uttered by man and womankind daily.

Why? Aren't a lot of people indeed very busy?
Yes.

But we all have the same 24 hours, how come some people are able to make them work effectively, and "have time" for all the "mundane" things others claim not to have time for?

People exist who lead all sorts of busy lives, who have demanding professions and/or families and/or lots of extracurricular commitments; yet they still seem to have time to answer an email/text/call, or read a newspaper ... or take a shower...or do their nails, etc...you get the point!

I don't have amazing time-management skills but even at my busiest point in life when I was holding down a very demanding job in Capital Markets and appearing on MTV simultaneously, I *STILL* had time for friends, and to eat, and to travel, because I wanted to make time...if you don't want to do certain things it's another matter, just know that no one believes the "no-time" excuse especially because there is something called "multi-tasking" most of us are aware of, so be more creative if you must be an excusinator.

:)

I've got the POWAAAAA (as in, Power...a la Snap!)

"Positive things happen to positive thinkers" - Robert De Niro in The Fan.

Although his character was a certifiable psycho in the movie, he was onto something you have heard preached in hundreds of blogs, speeches, television programs, etc.
So if it's so simple why don't more people say "YES" to their positive thoughts instead of letting the negative ones pollute their head-space?

I would be lying if I said I have never had a negative thought or took negative actions in my life. I am not a completely 100% positive person and I doubt anyone truly is...but I do try to block out negativity, as I truly believe (as you should) that it is harmful, toxic, and dangerous not only to your well-being but to others' too.

Exposing yourself and others to negative words/actions releases stress and kills the brain's health which directly affects the health of a person's body. It's scientifically proven in a variety of studies, and it makes perfect sense and yet still...people refute the idea and choose to dwell in a wasteland of destructive thought.

I hope if you are one of them, you will stop. Now.

Lying, deceiving, backbiting, stealing, and hurting others are all negative behaviours spawned from the wrong kind of thinking.
If you feel inadequate or jealous of someone else, trying to hurt them or being negative towards them will definitely not help your state any further and will make you even more vile and destructive.
I have observed it ruining friendships, relationships, and making people literally crazy.

Some believe positive thinkers are unrealistic or dumb.
Well, I am a mostly positive thinker and I happen to be very in touch with reality and am certainly far from dumb. Not acknowledging or partaking in childish games, or jealous competitions does not make someone dumb, it makes them smart...for not wanting to live a life of hate and pettiness.

Like the Eagles sang: So often time it happens, we all live our life in chains, and we never even know we have the key.
Think about it.

He who has so little knowledge of human nature as to seek happiness by changing anything but his own disposition will waste his life in fruitless efforts. ~Samuel Johnson

To be upset over what you don't have is to waste what you do have. ~Ken S. Keyes, Jr., Handbook to Higher Consciousness

We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. ~Oscar Wilde

It`s not all about looks...

On Saturday night I was lucky enough to be at Alice in Chain's sold out show at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre (capacity: 16000)...they are, and always will be one of my favourite bands ever.
The consistency, quality and uniqueness of their songwriting and presentation will always be special to me...from their unique "Alice in Chains tuning" to the merging of harmony with classic rock and other genres, their songs are consistently full of depth and I respect them immensely as musicians!!
I mentioned how much I adored the band while speaking with another fan and he asked "why? do you have some crush on Jerry Cantrell?" as if that could be the only reason a female could be fond of musicians.
First of all, no offense to Jerry Cantrell, because in some circles he might be a stud, but I don't find him remotely attractive.
And second of all, that statement made me feel like he thought females could ONLY be into music if the artist was physically appealing, which is not true.
There is a saying "if you never judge, you can never be mistaken..." and this cannot be any further from the truth. Labels and judgement are unfair.
His jaw dropped when he learned I have been playing instruments since I was very young. I learned guitar by age 13 and had a deep appreciation for all kinds of genres before I even knew what sex appeal was...his shock to me was silly and makes me a little bit nauseous because I am definitely not distinct in this regard.
Maybe he was just saying it out of ignorance or has some man-crush on Jerry Cantrell himself...I don`t know. But it made me feel like we were in 1950, not 2010.
The end.

Courtney Love is my new TBFF

Last night I could not sleep.
I turned to Twitter for entertainment but being 2am, there was not much activity and I wasn't in the mood to read the time-released tweets about being a social media expert or top ten lists of why your pet is deviant or reasons you suck at using Twitter.
Then, as I scanned my stream over I noticed Courtney Love online entertaining questions, like a lot of celebrities do...usually during more conventional hours...but then again...this IS Courtney Love we are talking about! Anyway, I decided to send her a question and sign out and try to sleep again.
My question to her: "Are guys from the south really gentlemen?" I had noticed a lot of people tweeting her so I didn't expect her to talk to me but she answered with "no! I LOATHE Jack Daniels a LOT!"
She told me what she likes to drink and what she drinks it with...she even retweeted my answer to her followers. You can all go creep her and my profiles to see our brief convo but it was pretty cool seeing her answer people's questions and ranting about random stuff like how she was thinking of doing a Gaga cover and how it's Joan Jett's loss completely for slamming her in the 90s.
Love her or hate her, she is always entertaining.
And that's all I have to say about that.

Worst

Fail of the day: Putting your ipod on speaker and the worst song ever comes on and everyone looks at you like you totally suck for wasting gigabytes on it but then you realize you accidentally synced all music from your laptop onto your ipod...including the Sample Music folder.

Let it Be

It never ceases to amaze me how some people do not possess one iota of courtesy, respect or sociability whatsoever.
Two individuals who possess this mind-blowing array of no-skills have made my life hell today (IRL before anyone jumps to the conclusion this is a digital matter).
Although through digital channels these people are not absent. I am not going to waste a full blog about them because I have already addressed this issue before and no amount of truth, proof or reason can make these people apologize or even acknowledge they bought into untruths or constructed judgement based on false information.
Seems a lot of people do not subscribe to the philosophy of Peace & Love anymore. That makes me sad.

Disgusting. Never again.

My first concert (out of +/- 3000)

Who remembers their first concert? I do. I was 15. All I really wanted for my Sweet 16 was to go to a rock show and be cool! Obviously since I had no job and relied on my parents for money, my mom took charge of the plans and I didn’t know what to expect but I was assured that I would get my wish and she would take us to see guys who have long hair who play guitars; so I was pretty pumped! She ended up buying about 10 of us tickets to go see Collective Soul (who happened to be in town on the exact day of my birthday –also a Monday night so I have no clue how any of us went to school the next day).

We clearly went to the venue directly after school and got to meet a couple of members from the band outside the venue randomly. First we saw the bassist in the park across the street, and totally had to go bombard him …at some point I think he said something like “y’all” and we started giggling uncontrollably and asking him “why do you talk like that? You’re not a rapper!!!” But he was still cool to us and hung out despite our lack of knowledge of geographical dialect differences. His sly exit was “oh look, he’s in the band too! Go get his autograph!” pointing at one of the guitarists. He wasn’t into it and told us he wasn’t in the band and swiftly ran away. We were like “what a LIAR!” later when we saw him on stage during the show.

The show was relatively fun. We were front row in the pit and wanted to mosh really badly cuz that’s what they did at rock shows on TV. I guess no one else wanted to (wrong concert?) so we simmered down and listened to the music… we didn’t know any of the words which pissed all the die-hards in attendance off. Some crazed-fans started yelling at us that we didn’t deserve to be front-row and that we were little bratty kids etc. But that just made us laugh cuz they were so serious and full of rage over something so inane.

After the show we went to the tour bus where apparently we could meet the band (according to an anonymous tip). At the time it didn’t seem crazy that we were taking advice from a man who came to the show alone and followed them from city to city. The lead singer was “sleeping” already but the bassist was willing to talk to us again and we saw the guitarist who pretended not to be in the band before the show. He ignored us and we decided he was the worst one.
The drummer ignored us too so he was the second worst.
Maybe I will scan the pictures I have of meeting them that long ago later.

The end. Thanks for reading.

NINJA tour 2009!!

Nine Inch Nails and Jane's Addiction blew the non-existant lid off the Molson Amphitheatre last night in Toronto, hosting an at-capacity crowd and giving them one helluva rock experience.

Without boasting too much about how bad-ass Dave Navarro is on the guitar or how amazingly magentic Perry Farrell is to watch; and without getting into too much detail about how phenomenal NIN are live...I will just say it was truly amazing.

And to add to it all, NIN/JA is donating VIP ticket sales towards special charities you can read about on their official sites: http://www.nin.com/ and http://www.janesaddiction.com/. Of course you can watch footage on youtube of the show to relive the excitement or catch up on what you missed if you didn't get to go.

Special thanks to Jane's Addiction bassist Eric Avery for hitting me up with tickets...you are a true inspriation!

Tuff Stuff!

I was treated to a big laugh when I came across a tragic blog posting by a 'male' looking for some love!

The opening line was very clever - "I don't know what this is but I'm posting here to see if anyone else is lonely".

Then the good-stuff - 'I'm attractive, nice, a tax-payer, not a douche-bag, not in rehab' and further that 'girls always come up to me when I'm out and want to be togetha and stuff but like whateva I'd rather find a girl online' - N.B. cutting the "er" off "whatever" and adding an "a" emphasizes his possible encounters with gang-people and other tough, cool things.

But don't be fooled by his rough exterior, he gets deeper and a little more honest (but no-less hurting) admitting to being nerdy, socially awkward, and at times deviant.

He lets us know that he is looking for love and likes to be cuddled - a picture is valiantly included of the unbathed, topless skeleton who posted the ad (self-taken of course)...one might think it's the Cryptkeeper, or just a look-alike but this guy is not sticking around waiting for you to find out as he ends the ad in BOLD TYPE stating - "I am not checking email after 3 hours so if you don't email me I'll find something else to do regardless" - like post more ads, or research ways to build tough muscles without working out.

I hope he succeeds, juiced skeletons are the best - think Skeletor! Chicks dig him and he is a hit at Hallowe'en parties. Yes!

Welcome!

The year is 2008 - almost 10 years since blogging took off and became one of the most popular means of sharing stories, thoughts, and news pieces.
Yes, I am definitely behind the times on this one and I apologize to all you fine souls who have been with it 5 years before blogs even came to existence. You are the be all and end all of blogs. You knew about them before they became popular and sold out to the mainstream and became commercial whores. Like that darn Chris Cornell.
What is his deal anyway? How dare he be good at song-writing and release something that could be popular with not just the Crow-watching, music-pausal crowd? How dare he evolve and release an album he worked on with Timbaland? Wasn't Timbaland part of N SYNC?? That is the height of mainstream Pop and I just won't have it.
I am of course referring to Chris' new song "Scream" which is off of the album of the same name. The song was featured on One Tree Hill - a show known for having consistently incredible soundtracks. The inclusion of Chris Cornell's 'Scream' was a slick move on the part of OTH's music department - the song is appealing to the masses and most likely will begin to attract a whole new slew of fans to buy Cornell's music - much to the disdain of the former fans who have loudly made their opinions known about this new One Republic-eque sound. Gone are the dark lyrics and experimental guitar riffs. Gone is the shrill, signature raw Cornell SCREAM fans have become so fond of (which questions the integrity of the album title) - what the listener is left with is Timbaland infused beats and a slightly synthesized version of Chris' voice. On the up-side (which Chris has written about being "down on"), you can still tell it's Chris Cornell - to take a listen for yourself go to http://www.chriscornell.com/ - or hop on over to our pals at Youtube for a taste of the new sound.
Glad you stopped by...gotta run!
